Plug The Oil Well!
2.12 Introduction to Robotics
September 2010-December 2010
Team Leader
Goal: To design and build a robot that simulated plugging a broken oil well
Project:
The goal of the class was to develop a robot for the term project. The theme was "Operation Plug the Oil Well". The robots were supposed to autonomously find a damaged, leaking oil riser, seal it and withstand a back pressure after detaching the plug mechanism. We chose this design after a lot of brainstorming and split into two subteams to work on the building of the robot and the coding separately. It is made of three 3D printed parts and connected with hinges and magnets. Our robot was one of two to successfully complete all of the tasks and we won the Term Project Best Design Award.
